Are you a mom of a girl who wants to take Ritual or a vitamin-obsessed girl yourself? Here’s everything you need to know about Essential for Women if you still haven’t celebrated your eighteenth b-day.

Ritual was designed for women 18-55

When we set out to make Essential for Women (EFW), we wanted to create a universal vitamin that would fill the nutrient gaps in the average woman’s diet. But creating a universal women’s vitamin is easier said than done, so we focused on creating a pill and customer experience that would satisfy the largest possible group of people: women 18-55. (If you’re curious why our recommended age range doesn’t include women over 55, please click here to learn more!)

Ritual ingredients are safe for girls as young as four years old

While we didn’t design Ritual with girls in mind, Essential for Women is still safe for girls as young as four years old. Why? The essential nutrients in Ritual are essential for, well, everyone. It’s just a matter of how much of those nutrients you should really ingest. The recommended dosages of nutrients depend largely on the gender assigned to you and age. The Institute of Medicine is the authority on recommended nutrient daily values. According to their recommendations, girls as young as four require the same intake of Ritual’s nine essential nutrients as adult women. Why? Let’s break it down.

The daily values assigned by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) are minimum requirements--an attempt to create a one-size-fits-all recommendation in a world full of unique people with unique bodies. The IOM’s intention is to prevent anyone from getting too much of a nutrient, but also to prevent major deficiencies that can cause health problems. Their recommendations have a tolerance range built in that satisfies people of many ages and sizes.

Additionally, around age four, girls start to go through major growth spurts, and their nutrient needs increase to fuel all that growth. So, even though you and your 4-year-old daughter or niece are very different sizes and at very different life stages, your recommended nutrient intakes are relatively similar. She’s growing. You’re probably not still growing (we know, bummer). That difference in growth activity makes up for the difference in your size. So it actually makes sense that you’d have similar nutrient needs.

Always check with your doctor

While Ritual is safe for girls as young as four, it’s always best to talk to your doctor before starting a new supplement. Your doc has the 411 on medical history, diet, and all the good stuff that’s unique to you.
